Ashton United 3 Guiseley 0
Terry Dolan's first game in charge of UniBond Premier Division side Guiseley was not the start he and the club had planned.
Guiseley were first to show, with Tony Lennon shooting over in the seventh minute and Mark Smith heading wide from a 14th-minute Richard Dunning corner.
Ashton soon made the Nethermoor men pay for those early misses.
The home side opened the scoring though Terry Bowker in the 17th minute in what was their first genuine attack. They managed to hold onto their lead until the half-time break as Guiseley's luck in front of goal was out.
Gavin Knight had three chances - one right-foot shot saved, one wide and one header also flying wide of the target.
Skipper Dunning also had a shot saved as the visitors did most of the attacking before the interval.
The second half went the same way, Ashton sitting back and allowing Guiseley the ball but defending deep so the visitors could not gain an advantage from their possession.
The best option for the visitors was set-pieces. Smith headed just wide of the target from a Dunning free-kick and just after the hour saw another headed effort saved by the home keeper following a Kevin Sharp corner.
That was just before the home side grabbed their second. It came in the 68th minute and it was from a hotly-disputed penalty.
Former Bradford City def-ender Sam Denton had been adjudged to have fouled an attacker inside Guiseley's area and United's Tom Baker stepped forward to net from the spot.
Again the home side retreated into their shell while Guiseley, looking for a win to get their challenge for promotion to the Conference North back on track following Tuesday's shock 2-0 defeat at Frickley Athletic, went on the offensive.
Smith was again denied by a save from the home keeper and Denton saw a free-kick fly over the target.
To rub salt into Guiseley's wounds, Ashton netted a third in the last minute.
There was a total mix-up as a Guiseley defender and the keeper both appeared to go for a through ball before pulling out to leave it to the other.
The Ashton winger needed no second invitation and stole the ball before crossing to Matthew Kaye, who ran the ball into the unguarded net.
