Pop star Aimee Driver marked her return to the Bradford City women’s side with a goal as they opened their Northern Combination season with two unbeaten games.

Faye Boshell scored deep into injury time to rescue a point from a 1-1 outcome against Middlesbrough, before strikes by Driver, Mel Garside-Wight and Bridie Hannon secured a 3-2 derby win at Huddersfield.

City next take on Stockport County at Thackley on Sunday and will be hoping Driver can make an impact again.

She has to fit in her football around a successful pop career with popular West Yorkshire-based band Scars on 45, spending much of last season in the United States.

The City A team also enjoyed a good start as they won 3-1 at Wetherby in the North East Regional League Southern Division thanks to goals by Kerry Playle (2) and Kerry McLoughlin.

They now travel to face Doncaster side Rovers Foundation, who drew 1-1 with Ossett Albion in their last game. Claire Popplewell was the Albion scorer.

Keighley Oaks also had to settle for a point from a 4-4 draw at Kirklees in the same section.

Kylie Armstrong, Melissa Houldsworth, Sophie Ganes and Hannah Spencer netted for Keighley, with Olivia Dangerfield (2), Jordane Allison and Nicola Cartwright replying.

Oaks now take on Ossett looking to avenge their recent cup defeat, while Kirklees host Millers and Rothwell go to Goole.

Guiseley were 4-1 Premier Division winners at Lepton after goals by Caroline Hulme, Julie Richardson, Rachel White and Lyndsey Hopton. They are at home to Chester-le-Street this weekend.

The women’s season begins in full on Sunday with the opening games in the West Riding County League as Bradford Park Avenue open their Premier Division campaign at home to Tingly and Brighouse go to Wakefield.

Farsley take on Leeds Medics & Dentists in Division One, while Silsden go to Hepworth.

Northowram are at home to Republica in Division Two, while Division Three action sees Cleckheaton Sporting go to Outon, Dewsbury Rangers at Skipton and Ilkley away to Thornes.
