Steve Evans will today face a Football Association inquiry into his behaviour after City’s game against Crawley in March.

The Rotherham boss, who was with Crawley at the time, must answer an allegation that he acted indecently in front of a female member of the club’s staff outside the dressing room area at Valley Parade . He denies the charge.

An investigation was launched after City made an official complaint to the Football League, who passed on the case to the FA.

The FA formally charged Evans on June 19 under rule E3, which states: Abusive and/or indecent and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards a participant, which included a reference to gender.

The case was due to be heard in July but got put back because Evans, whose Rotherham side thrashed City 4-0 on Saturday, was ill.

Although no details have been made public, the Telegraph & Argus understands that the hearing will now take place today in the Midlands. Club director Roger Owen is expected to represent City alongside the complainant.

The alleged incident is said to have taken place following the explosive match on March 27, which saw five players shown the red card after a mass brawl at the final whistle.

Evans, who left Crawley to take the Rotherham job a fortnight later, has had a chequered record in management and any FA sanctions could place a question mark over his future in the game.

In 2003, the 49-year-old was suspended for 20 months following an investigation into alleged irregularities in player contracts when he was boss of Boston United.

Three years later, he received a 12-month suspended jail sentence after admitting tax evasion.

Evans’ touchline antics during the Crawley game last season were blamed by some at City for stirring up the situation which led to the free-for-all in the centre circle.

Both clubs were later hauled before the FA and charged with failing to control their players. City were fined £9,000 while Crawley had to pay £18,000 because it was their second offence in the space of 12 months.
