Guiseley are flying high with a faultless beginning to the campaign and the Blue Square Bet North’s player of the month leading their attack.

The Lions will be hunting their fifth straight victory when Gloucester City make the long trip to Nethermoor on Saturday.

The visitors have not had the best of starts and are currently languishing in 15th spot, having won one, drawn one and lost two.

Gavin Rothery will be looking to take his goal tally to the half-dozen mark.

The forward was named Player of the Month for August during the week and is the division’s leading scorer with five, two of which have come from the penalty spot.

One of those was in the last home game - the 2-0 win over Gainsborough Trinity.

Lions boss Steve Kittrick said after that game: “There were tired legs out there; it has been a very demanding start to the season.

“The players have done well, and even when they have been under pressure at times, like the Gainsborough game, they have shown desire, determination and concentration.

"They earned clean sheets in the last two games, and let’s not forget, Gainsborough did better than us last season.

"They didn’t finish above us (Guiseley were runners-up) but they went to the play-off final.

“There are a few niggling injuries and players have missed games here and there but it’s nothing we can’t ride through because we have a good squad.”

Guiseley’s lead at the top of the table is slender because second-placed Brackley Town and Chester FC, who are third, have matched them by winning their four opening games.

The Lions are top on goals scored because Brackley also have a plus-13 goal difference while Chester’s is five.
