Garry Thompson wants to Kop a trip to Liverpool after firing City into the last 32 of the Capital One Cup.

Thompson’s added-time winner at Watford took the Bantams into round three for the first time since 2001.

All the big boys enter the competition now and the Vicarage Road hero has his sights on one particular reward from tomorrow night’s draw. Thompson said: “I had some big cup games at Scunthorpe, playing against Man City twice, Man United and Newcastle.

“But I’ve never played at Anfield and I’d love to go there. Drawing Liverpool away would be the icing on the cake.

“We’ve played well against Notts County and now at Watford and I really hope we can get a big team away from home. That would be so nice for the fans, the players and our families to have that day out.”

Thompson’s first goal for the club crowned an amazing late fightback after Kyel Reid’s 85th-minute equaliser.

Thompson, one of six changes from the win over Wimbledon, added: “It’s always good to get your first goal for the club – and what a place to get it.

“It gets the monkey off your back. I’ve got a target in mind about how many I want to score and that’s one on the way now.

“When you play up front, you’re judged on scoring goals and it’s great to get the winner.”

Alan Connell hit the post in the first half and City felt they should have had a penalty for a foul on Zavon Hines.

Phil Parkinson said: “Watford are two divisions ahead of us and they are a very good side.

“When Zavon was scythed down we were amazed the referee didn’t see it. But you’ve got to keep going and we stuck to the gameplan well.

“You expect to have pressure but apart from their goal, there weren’t too many real threats.

“I’m really pleased with Kyel. He was disappointed not to score on Saturday but goalscoring is all about being ready for the next one and that was a really good finish.

“And I couldn’t be happier for Thommo. He’s found it tough physically at times with that injury in Ireland when we needed to get some work into him.

“But he’s a strong, powerful lad and I was really pleased with him.”

Parkinson also handed a debut to Carl McHugh at left back and felt the Irish defender grew into the occasion.

“It was a tough ask for him but he stuck to his task really well. He’s only 19 but he’s got a big heart and he showed that in a very hard game.”
