Brighouse Town went into the Bank Holiday round of fixtures playing catch up with their local rivals but they hold the bragging rights now after a 2-1 home win over Bridlington Town in the Baris Counties North East League Premier Division.

Town got off to the best possible start as Ernest Boafa gave them a second-minute lead but they were all-square at the break after Brid equalised through Wayne Aziz on the half-hour.

Danny Nadiole netted the winner midway through the second half to lift Town into seventh place, above near-neighbours Liversedge and Thackley.

However, it could not be a tighter early-season race as all three local clubs have ten points.

Liversedge broke into double figures with a superb 3-3 draw at promotion favourites Scarborough Athletic.

Sedge sneaked into the break a goal to the good after Joe Jagger’s 45th-minute opener but the home side came back strongly.

Goals from James Bennett, Troy Hackworth and Ryan Blott – in a nine-minute spell – early in the second half put the home side in the ascendancy.

But Sedge were far from finished and a late double from Gibril Bojang, the second from the penalty spot two minutes from time, saw them earn a point from a tough very game.

Thackley went into the weekend as top dogs locally but a 5-3 home defeat to leaders Worksop Parramore sees them hanging on the coat-tails of their neighbouring clubs and with a minus goal difference.

The Dennyboys bounced back from an early setback when Nicky Matthews cancelled out Lee Wittington’s second-minute strike. Matt Mathers made it 2-1 before Matthews bagged the second of a brace but Worksop’s Wittington scored just before the interval.

Worksop weathered an early spell from Thackley after the break and eased to a win with goals from Will McGhee, Wittington – to claim his hat-trick – and Scott Bates.

In Division One, Eccleshill United earned a point on the road when they netted a penultimate- minute equaliser to break hosts AFC Emley’s hearts.

The Eagles were down to ten men when Lee Hill was dismissed after retaliating to a challenge that put him out of the game and in hospital.

Emley took the lead from the penalty spot on the hour but Ben Lamb’s late scrambled leveller was the least the Eagles deserved, and by then Emley had also been reduced in numbers following a second bookable offence.
