Guiseley have enjoyed a perfect start to the season and sit proudly on top of the Blue Square Bet North table with a maximum six points.
The Lions’ goal difference sets them apart after they rattled in 11 goals and conceded just two in their opening two games.
They will now be looking to consolidate their position with a home game against winless Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday and a trip to Workington (one win and one defeat) on Bank Holiday Monday.
Guiseley started well as they thumped four past Histon, two of which were from Nicky Boshell – and the player who left Bradford Park Avenue in the summer to link up with older brother Danny at Nethermoor did not stop there.
Boshell struck twice more as the Lions won their first home game 7-1 over a stunned Droylsden side in midweek.
Josh Wilson also notched two, while Wayne Brooksby, Gavin Rothery (penalty) and Stephen Brogan weighed in with the other goals. The Bloods’ reply was also from the spot.
Brogan was signed after the start of the new campaign and the former Rotherham United midfielder wasted no time in opening his account.
He joined from last season’s promotion rivals Stalybridge Celtic and is a current England C international, as are his new team-mates James Walshaw and skipper Simon Ainge.
Saturday’s visitors have had a disappointing start, taking just one point from their first two games and are one of seven clubs yet to taste victory.
Trinity’s minus goal difference is also an uncomfortable statistic when meeting Guiseley in their current form.
Walshaw made his first appearance as a substitute in midweek as he recovers from an ankle injury picked up in pre-season. Chris Mason (hamstring) and Mark Bower are yet to feature.
Lions boss Steve Kittrick accepts that his side’s goal-scoring form makes for some tricky decisions on team selection.
“You don’t want to change a winning team unless you have to,” said Kittrick.
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, but the squad as a whole have done well.
“The win at Histon was not flattering as we wore them down in 30 degrees temperatures and it was very humid – and I was very pleased with how we played on Tuesday.”
