Ricky Ravenhill column
Tuesday’s win was just what we wanted to get off the mark after the disappointment at Gillingham. It was a massive result for us.
People are talking about Fleetwood being one of the big boys and they’ve spent a lot of money. But they have to prove themselves at this level.
The gaffer made some changes but all the lads coming in have experience. It’s so important to have good cover and the squad now shows we’ve got at least two players for each position.
Now we’ve got to take that home form into the Wimbledon game on Saturday.
Some people might get a bit carried away after they lost heavily at Burton in midweek but we won’t be. Every game in this division is going to be tough.
Look at the fact that Wimbledon had beaten Chesterfield on the opening day. They won’t be pushovers – but then neither will we if we play like we know we can.
There is a determined mentality about this squad ever since we came back for pre-season. The lads know what they’ve got to do.
If we get in front in games, like we did on Tuesday, then we are experienced and strong enough to see them through. I think the fans appreciated that.
You also need that little bit of luck at times and a couple of things went for us when they hit the crossbar and the post. But I always felt confident we would take the points.
It’s important to get something on the board early, although I don’t even bother looking at the league table until at least ten games in. Hopefully by then I might be involved again.
I’d love to be out there myself and it’s frustrating to be watching. But I’m working hard in the gym to make sure I can come back hopefully sooner rather than later.
