Zavon Hines was one of four changes as Phil Parkinson named an attack-minded City side to face new boys Fleetwood.
The right winger replaced Garry Thompson while Nathan Doyle came in alongside him in midfield for Will Atkinson.
Andrew Davies was back at centre half, so Rory McArdle shifted to right back in place of Stephen Darby.
And Nahki Wells got his reward for coming off the bench to score a penalty at Gillingham by taking over from Alan Connell up front.
CITY: Duke, McArdle, Oliver, Davies, Meredith, Hines, Doyle, G Jones, Reid, Wells, Hanson. Subs: Darby, Hannah, Thompson, Atkinson, McHugh, Connell, McLaughlin.
