Phil Parkinson insists City’s FA Cup loss at Watford will have no bearing at all on their Capital One rematch.

The Bantams must go to Vicarage Road for the second time in seven months following yesterday’s draw for round two.

It was a deflating outcome for all concerned as the club, who have grown used to cup letdowns, once again missed out on a potential money-spinner against Premier League opposition.

Instead they will face the same Championship outfit that dumped them out of the FA Cup in January.

Watford ran out 4-2 winners, despite goals from James Hanson and Nahki Wells, but Parkinson will not read too much into it.

“It’s going to be a very different game because the teams have both changed a lot,” he said. “Watford have got a new manager and new players and we have made a lot of changes over the summer.

“So I don’t think it will bear too much relation on what happened before.”

The Hornets are now managed by Gianfranco Zola, who succeeded Sean Dyche six weeks ago after the Italian Pozzo family took over the club.

City will start clear underdogs in the tie – which is likely to take place on Tuesday, August 28 – but Parkinson believes they can upset the odds as they did at Notts County.

“Of course we’d have preferred to be at home and it’s not the ideal draw for us,” he said.

“But when the game comes around, I know we will be up for it and ready to give it a real go. We put in a very good performance against Notts County and I’m sure we can do that again.”

City have also dismissed Carlisle claims that they are back in talks for Tom Taiwo.

The former Leeds youngster, who is looking to join a Yorkshire club to stay near his young family, appeared in the opening pre-season friendly at Tadcaster.

But City dropped their interest when the League One club slapped a six-figure compensation fee on the 22-year-old midfielder, believed to be over £200,000.

Despite leaving Carlisle at the end of last season, they are continuing to pay Taiwo until the end of the month to protect their interests for the amount of compensation that will be due for his development.

It was reported in Cumbria that City were still hopeful of coming to a compromise agreement and had made contact again – but the Bantams insist that is not the case.

A Valley Parade source said: “We’re not talking to Carlisle. There’s nothing in any of it.”
