Silsden had home advantage for their derby tie against Brighouse Town in the FA Cup extra-preliminary round yesterday but it did not prevent their visitors snatching a late winner to complete a second-half comeback.

The Cobbydalers took a firm grip on the match and led 2-0 at half-time. Mike Garrod broke the deadlock just after the half-hour and Joe Gaughan added the home side’s second a minute before the break.

Town dug in and got a foothold just two minutes into the second half when Tom Matthews netted from the penalty spot.

A goal from Leon Henry levelled the tie before the visitors’ Ben Charlesworth brought the game to a dramatic conclusion with his strike four minutes from time.

Town will face Eccleshill United in another derby in the next round after there was even more late drama for the Eagles.

They beat Glasshoughton Welfare 4-2, with half of the goals being scored after the 90-minute mark.

Visitors Welfare had taken an early lead through Reece Chapple but goals from Josh Austin and Charlie Flaherty saw the home side in front by the interval.

The second half threatened to be goalless but there were another three in stoppage time.

Flaherty kicked off the late action with the goal of the game, drifting past two defenders before firing a shot into the bottom corner.

Welfare pegged one back through Chris Hitchen but when Andy Howland was felled in the area, Ben Lamb netted the resulting penalty.

The six minutes of stoppage time were added because the Eagles’ Adam Bower had to be stretchered off to hospital with a suspected broken ankle.

Thackley and Liversedge both exited the competition at the first hurdle after being beaten at home by strong Northern League outfits.

The Dennyboys were beaten 3-1 by Hebburn Town, a goal from Liam Moore briefly having them on terms in the second half.

Sedge netted two late strikes, Joe Hewitt and Chris Wood being on target, but they could not recover from being 4-0 down after 47 minutes.
