Ossett Town 3, Guiseley 0
Guiseley’s pre-season campaign ground to a losing halt at Lions boss Steve Kittrick’s former club Ossett Town.
It was a seventh warm-up game for the Conference North club before their league season begins this coming Saturday, and it looked like one game too many for the squad.
There was lethargy and a lack of concentration but they did dominate possession and create as many, if not considerably more, chances as their hosts.
Had they taken a percentage of the openings they forced, it could have been a different story.
Ossett got off to the best possible start as Lee Bennett latched onto a weak back-pass in the second minute and opened the scoring.
A catalogue of near-misses for the visitors soon followed, with Danny Forrest on the end of a lot of them.
The former Bradford City forward sent his first shot wide, saw his second saved and then headed a Jamie Clarke cross over the target.
Clarke had a shot tipped over the bar by the home keeper and, from the corner, Simon Ainge had an effort saved.
The home side rode their luck and doubled their advantage when Andy Catton netted in the 37th minute to wrap-up the first half scoring.
He was on target again in the first minute of the second period to put the home side 3-0 up.
Second-half chances fell to Nicky Boshell, Reece Meynell and Zac Dale but Forrest was once again the most wasteful of the Lions’ forwards.
Spokesman Stuart Allen said: “We had the ball most of the time but we defended like plonkers at times and didn’t take our chances.
"We didn’t have James Walshaw and Chris Mason, who were both injured, so a week of training now before the serious stuff starts could be just what the squad needs to be firing on all cylinders on day one.”
