Manager Kulwinder Sandhu admitted it had been a quiet summer for the club that made its debut on the non-league scene last term.

There was no long list of friendly fixtures against clubs from a higher level or representative sides from neighbouring Football League clubs. Instead it was a short break, long training schedules and then back to business.

“It’s been low profile. We are a quiet little club,” said Sandhu in typically humble fashion. His club may not be the brash new kids on the block but they made a good impression on and off the field last term.

Albion came within a whisker of gaining promotion in their first season but Sandhu feels they have now lost the surprise element, so will endure a tougher time this campaign.

“Yes, we did well but fell away towards the end,” confirmed the boss. “But we made a lot of friends and gained some respect off our fellow clubs. I think that is just as important because when you come into a new league you like to make a good impression.

“Other Division One clubs liked coming to us and their officials and players welcomed our hospitality and accepted our friendship. It was a great experience for our club but we are still on a learning curve.

“Our squad did well last season but, when you are in the non-league, your players are being seen by other clubs at higher levels and unfortunately we have lost a few.

“The expense of being at this level is huge and most of that burden is on our sponsors because we are not well supported yet. With that in mind, we have to bring our own young players through to fill the gaps.”
