Nathan Doyle has rejoined City on a one-year deal.
The versatile defender or midfielder put pen to paper before this afternoon's Valley Parade friendly against Bury.
Doyle, 25, made 28 appearances for City on loan from Derby during the 2006-2007 season. He was out of contract after being released by Barnsley.
His arrival will boost City's options after they lost skipper Ricky Ravenhill for at least the next three months with a knee injury.
Doyle did not play in the game which the League One side won 3-0. Jon McLaughlin's comic fifth-minute own goal was followed by good finishes from Lenell John-Lewis and Lateef Elford-Alliyu.
