Stuart McCall is ready to hand Simon Ramsden a fresh chance at Motherwell.
The Telegraph & Argus understands the right back, whose time with City has been blighted by injury, has been invited to Scotland for a trial with his former Valley Parade boss.
If all goes well, Ramsden could team up again with McCall in time for the club’s first foray into the Champions’ League.
City have offered a new deal to the out-of-contract defender but it was thought to be on much lower terms compared to what he had been on before.
When fit, Ramsden has proved himself to be among the best right backs in the basement division.
But his performances have been severely hampered by lengthy injury absences and he has started only 20 games in the past two seasons.
Because of that, the new contract was believed to be significantly reduced and weighted heavily on the number of appearances.
City boss Phil Parkinson said: “We’ve got an offer on the table and we’re waiting to see what he wants to do.
“It’s not the offer he was looking for and, as with any player, he would like a bit more.
“He’s got every right to see if he can get that. We like Rammers but we’ve made him an offer and it’s down to him.”
McCall signed Ramsden from Rochdale in 2009 and remains a big admirer. He may consider playing him as a centre half rather than just at full back.
Motherwell return to pre-season tomorrow before heading off to Portugal for a training camp at the weekend which Ramsden is expected to join.
Meanwhile, the Bantams continue to wait for a decision from long-term target Andy Gray.
While keen for an answer, they are thought to have given the striker another few days to make up his mind following new interest from other clubs. At least one from the Championship have made an inquiry.
City know it would be a big ask for Gray to drop down to League Two but have been encouraged by how seriously he is considering a return to Valley Parade.
Parkinson has other names on his list, although one reported target – Oldham’s former Huddersfield frontman Robbie Simpson – yesterday committed his future to Boundary Park.
