City boss Phil Parkinson said he intends to strengthen his back line further for the forthcoming season.

The Bantams chief has enjoyed a profitable summer so far, signing Andrew Davies on a permanent deal from Stoke City and bringing Rory McArdle to Valley Parade on a two-year contract from Aberdeen this week.

Both Davies and McArdle are central defenders yet Parkinson is keen to bolster his rearguard further.

“We’ve still got work to do defensively,” he said.

“We’re not prioritising in terms of positions and it’s just the way it’s worked that the first two signings have been defenders.

“We’re working on several areas to improve the squad as a whole.

“We’re not expecting anything to happen imminently but we are working on things.”

Parkinson has admitted that former City striker Andy Gray is on his radar following his release from Barnsley.

Talks have taken place but Parkinson said last night: “Andy is just one of several players we have spoken to but that’s it really.

“There’s no more to it than that.”

Whether Parkinson will look to step up his interest in the frontman remains to be seen, but he has vowed to bring in more new faces.
