Crawley’s visit to Valley Parade on Saturday will be like a cup final for City.
Forget it that they are in their first year in the Football League. Crawley are the big spenders of the league and have been the favourites to go up from the start.
They’re the big team of the division because of the finances and it will be a good gauge for City to see how far away they are.
Crawley were spending big bucks before they rose to this level. Their wage bill last year was a lot more than any team in this division.
Fortune favours the brave. If it hadn’t come off, the club would have gone pear-shaped.
But Crawley got their rewards by getting promoted and beating Torquay and Derby in the FA Cup. They even took Man U all the way at Old Trafford.
I’ll be honest, I thought they would walk League Two this season. I’m surprised the likes of Southend and Cheltenham are up there with them.
Manager Steve Evans is a bit of a fiery character who demands a lot of his players but you can’t take away that he’s doing a very good job.
I'm looking forward to the game. City will have to be on top of their game but it would be a great scalp.
