Burnley have cancelled the contract of former Bantams loanee Richard Eckersley by mutual consent.

The former Manchester United right back endured an unhappy time at Turf Moor since joining the club in 2009 and still had 18 months remaining on his current deal.

Eckersley, who started 12 games in a row for City under Peter Taylor last season, failed to make a single Clarets league appearance, with his four starts all coming in cup competitions.

The 22-year-old went on to enjoy a spell with Major League Soccer side Toronto FC, where it is thought his future may now lie.
