Winger Will Atkinson knew his move to City was the right one after a glowing recommendation from Jamie Devitt.

The Irishman’s own loan spell at Valley Parade did not pan out the best way with criticism of his time-keeping.

But he had no hesitation in supporting Hull team-mate Atkinson’s decision to head along the M62 in a loan deal that is set to be made permanent in the summer.

Atkinson, who had just finished a five-month stint at Plymouth, sought Devitt’s opinion when the Bantams came knocking.

He said: “Jamie just told me ‘do it, it’s a great club.’ He said there were some good players here and he was really positive about it.

“If he was to say the total opposite, it might have made me think twice but Jamie just wanted me to come here even more.

“I got the call a couple of weeks ago and jumped at the chance of it happening.

“I enjoyed the experience down with Plymouth and played week in, week out. But when I got back to Hull, I knew I wasn’t going to play so I was eager to get out again."
