Guiseley travel to Histon on Saturday in search of a double pick-me-up after a frustrating midweek.

The Lions could have claimed second place in Blue Square Bet North with a win at lowly Vauxhall Motors but were held to a draw.

But victory at Histon could see them bag second spot, depending on other results, and also give them a lift ahead of their attempt to upset Cambridge United in the FA Trophy a week later.

Fourth-placed Guiseley would love to sign off with a league win at Histon to rack up the pressure on their promotion rivals before being sidetracked by a return trip to Cambridgeshire the following Saturday.

Ten places may separate the Lions from their hosts but there is a world of difference in their records so far this term.

Guiseley have lost just four of their 24 games to date and would move to within a point of leaders Hyde were they to win all of their matches in hand.

Meanwhile, Histon have registered maximum points in less than a third of their 26 games and have a minus goal difference.

Lions manager Steve Kittrick will hope to bring James Walshaw back into his line-up.

The recently-returned striker came off the bench to grab a dramatic seven-minute hat-trick in last weekend’s 4-3 win at home to Droylsden but missed Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw at Vauxhall due to illness.

Fellow forward Gavin Rothery missed both these games due to suspension and will have to sit out this weekend as well as he serves the last game of a three-match suspension for the red card he received at Bishop’s Stortford earlier this month.
