Vauxhall Motors 1, Guiseley 1

Guiseley were left still waiting to break through the 50-point barrier in the Blue Square Bet North Division and still one point behind FC Halifax Town after a frustrating night at lowly Vauxhall Motors.

The Lions were hunting the win that would have taken them to second place but they could only gain a single point so remain fourth.

Halifax were also held to a draw, 2-2 at home to Gainsborough Trinity, so it remains as you were for the top four clubs.

Vauxhall took the lead midway through the first half when Liam Flynn converted a cross from the left flank with a well-placed header.

Just a minute later, Guiseley’s Ciaran Toner had a shot saved, while Simon Baldry and Chris Senior both went close before the break.

It was Senior who levelled when he fired in from 15 yards just before the hour mark.

The striker pounced onto a loose ball after a corner from Dave Morris was only half-cleared by the home defence.

Guiseley went in search of the winner but the home defence dropped deeper and remained resolute, even though they were reduced in numbers seven minutes from time.

The Lions created all of the chances in the latter stages, even before the sending off.

A Toner cross just eluded Lee Ellington at the far post and a Baldry header, to a Merris cross, hit the face of the bar and came out before being cleared.

Just two minutes from time, Senior saw a shot that had the home keeper beaten cleared from near the line by a covering defender, and a Toner effort in the last minute was blocked.
