Tyersal were blown off top spot as their West Riding County Amateur League match against Campion was abandoned.
Just 15 minutes of the PREMIER DIVISION local derby had been played when the referee decided it would be dangerous and farcical to continue as the Arkwright Street ground was battered by strong winds.
This meant that Ovenden West Riding, who had beaten Tyersal the previous week, were able to take over at the summit thanks to their 7-2 win in a rescheduled game at home to Brighouse Town.
Steve Fullard’s hat-trick was backed up by goals from Andy Gregory (2), Mark Ayscough and John Booth, while Marshall Riley and Andy Hawker replied. Steeton had to come from behind to win 2-1 at Hall Green United as second-half goals from Jamie Longley and Lee Reilly overturned Matthew Marsden’s opener.
Bay Athletic, champions for the last four seasons, gave notice of their intent to make it five on the trot with a 6-3 home win against Lower Hopton. Fourth-placed Bay have played fewer games than all the sides above them.
Bronte Wanderers boosted their hopes of avoiding relegation from DIVISION ONE as John Butcher netted five times in a 6-1 victory at fellow strugglers Storthes Hall Reserves.
Bottom side Dudley Hill Rangers, without a win in their last eight games, suffered another setback as they lost 2-1 at Wakefield City.
Paul Harrison struck Rangers’ consolation after Andrew Minshall and Luke Griffiths had netted for the mid-table hosts.
Hunsworth came through their battle against the high winds and opponents Westbrook YMCA to win 1-0 with a second-half Dale Wright goal.
Goals from Chris Gibbons, Jatinder Singh, Arron Gibson, and Asif Hussain enabled leaders Albion Sports to beat fellow high-fliers Kirkburton Reserves 4-0 in one of only two DIVISION TWO games to be played. Rawdon Old Boys edged out Ovenden West Riding Reserves 1-0 in the other match after a second-half strike by Oliver Leslie.
DIVISION THREE pacesetters Littletown Reserves extended their unbeaten start to 12 games with a 2-2 draw at Lower Hopton Reserves.
Tingley Athletic Reserves remain second after a 5-3 home victory over Hunsworth Reserves.
Bronte Wanderers Reserves are still without a league victory after losing 3-1 at home to Hall Green United Reserves.
