The West Riding County Amateur League were saddened to learn that one of their longest serving members, Dennis H Humpleby, died on January 13, aged 78.
Mr Humpleby joined the management committee of the League in 1978 and fulfilled many positions, including that of general secretary, before being elected as League president in 1996.
After retiring from the police force with the rank of inspector, Mr Humpleby and his wife Myra spent most of the winter months in Spain and Portugal before returning in the summer to compete in his other sporting passion of crown green bowls in the Bradford and Shipley area.
His funeral was held on Thursday at Goldsborough Parish Church in Knaresborough, close to his home in Pateley Bridge.
All County Amateur League clubs have been asked to hold a minute’s silence at their games this weekend in memory of Mr Humpleby.
