The support I’ve had from the other players and the staff at the club has meant a lot to me.

It’s been a horrible time stuck in hospital with the virus and not being able to do anything. But the team and the management have rallied round and I’ve really appreciated that.

Sometimes you will not hear anything from a club. You become the forgotten man because you’re not around. But that’s not been the case for me at all. Virtually all the players have been in contact and several have come to see me while I’ve been in hospital.

The gaffer’s been ringing every day, as well as Steve Parkin, and doctor Vince and Dave the physio have been brilliant as well. You don’t forget things like that. I don’t think people realise how much it means.

When I was in hospital in Chorley, Craig Fagan saw how worried I was and had a word with Dave to get me into somewhere private. Moving to the Yorkshire Clinic and the fantastic staff there really made a difference.

Big Luke came in to visit on Sunday and we watched two films together. There was me stuck in bed unable to eat anything and him with his long leg stretched out because of his injured hamstring!

We must have looked a right pair but it was great to have a good laugh again. He took the mick out of me for being a bit skinny and I had a go back saying he never ran fast enough to do a hamstring.

It’s that type of banter that you miss out on, not being in the dressing room. So I was made up to get so many calls. I even got a text after last week’s game from Kev Ellison going on about his equaliser. Now that did make me feel a bit sick!

I spent most of my time in hospital sleeping but got into plenty of crosswords as I got better. I just can’t wait until I’m able to go back to the training ground. I’ve missed the day-to-day routine around the club – I’ve even missed Parky bullying and abusing me like he does!
