Guiseley 1 Gateshead 0
Guiseley matched their narrow win when the two teams met in the UniBond Premier Division earlier in the season as they dumped their league rivals out of the FA Cup at Nethermoor on Saturday.
Both games were settled by a single goal and Guiseley's latest victory made it ten games since Neil Parsley's men were beaten.
They rode their luck at times and missed a penalty but they are in the hat for the third qualifying-round draw.
"We didn't play well but any win in the FA Cup is a good one," said a delighted Parsley.
"I thought when we missed that penalty that it would be a replay job, or worse, but we came through.
"I'm pleased with the win and for the players. It is all about results in the cup, the performance doesn't go down in the record books.
"It is important for the club and, all things considered, it has been an important week for us."
Guiseley had four very presentable chances in the goalless first half but also had to make a substitution.
After Scott Jackson, Gavin Knight and Richard Dunning had all gone close, the hosts' Chris Clarke was injured after clashing with a defender from a free-kick from Dunning.
His lip was so badly split by the contact that he was immediately taken off to hospital for stitches.
Guiseley's worst miss came from the spot kick in the 76th minute.
Matty Smithard had been brought down in the area and Stuart Gray, the son of former Leeds United and Scotland legend Eddie, stepped forward but sent his effort high over the target.
Undeterred, Guiseley netted the all-important goal just six minutes later when Jackson pounced on a weak back pass.
He stole the ball and dispatched it clinically into the net past a stunned visiting keeper.
Recent signing Andy Shields made his debut when he came off the bench in the second half.
He looked a little ring-rusty after his illness lay-off since departing from Conference North neighbours Farsley Celtic.
But he has the important first appearance under his belt now.
He might get the opportunity to add a first league appearance in quick time as Guiseley head to North Ferriby United in the UniBond Premier Division tomorrow, with Shields assured of his place in the final 14-man squad.
