Leaders Tyersal missed a golden opportunity to pull clear of the chasing West Riding County Amateur League pack as they lost 6-3 at closest rivals Ovenden West Riding.

This was the only PREMIER DIVISION fixture to survive the frost that caused over half the league’s scheduled games to be postponed, which followed the previous weekend’s call-offs due to waterlogged pitches.

And it was Ovenden who emerged triumphant as hat-tricks from John Booth and Andy Gregory enabled them to cut the gap at the summit to two points with three games in hand.

Tyersal took the lead through Andrew Bailey but the hosts drew level when Booth netted a penalty after Steve Fullard had been held back.

It remained 1-1 until the second half when the floodgates opened, with Ovenden pulling two goals ahead though Booth and Gregory.

Ben Kendall pulled one back for Tyersal but Ovenden made sure of the points as their goal-scorers both completed trebles, before an own goal by Liam Brompton ended the scoring.

In DIVISION ONE, only the game between struggling duo Bronte Wanderers and Dudley Hill Rangers was ruled out as Marley Stadium in Keighley was deemed unplayable.

Leaders Lepton Highlanders extended their unbeaten start to 16 games with a 5-1 success at Wakefield City.

Second-placed Salts are also in peak form and advanced their winning run to ten successive league games with a 2-1 success at Hunsworth to remain nine points behind Lepton.

Salts were leading 2-0 at the break thanks to a Wayne Walsh strike and an own goal by Craig Firth but were left hanging on at the end after Joel Farrar reduced the arrears for the hosts.

Two Scott Hargreaves goals enabled fourth-placed Overthorpe to maintain their promotion bid as they won 2-0 at Westbrook YMCA.

Ventus/Yeadon Celtic had Alex Cusack in their ranks as his Albion Sports side were without a game and he netted twice in a 6-2 victory at Tingley Athletic.

There were also two goals for Matt Hannan, with Anthony Hannan and Dale Porter also on target.

Tyersal Reserves took advantage of playing in the only DIVISION TWO game to go ahead with a 4-1 home win over Ovenden West Riding Reserves.

The win lifted Tyersal to second place as goals from Dave Scott (2), Alan Morley and Jamie McEwen eclipsed Andrew Parker’s reply.

There was also only one match played in DIVISION THREE, with Salts Reserves closing the gap on second-placed Tingley Athletic Reserves to three points after beating them 5-1.

Salts’ goals came from a Mathew Bailey hat-trick backed up by Richard Magson’s double, with an own goal being the only consolation for Tingley.
