Joe Jagger’s hat-trick enabled West Bowling to continue their defence of the WEST RIDING COUNTY FA SUNDAY CUP as they eased past Stanningley Albion 4-1.
Albion, who play in Division 1B of the Bradford Sunday Alliance League, performed well to hold their top-flight hosts until the 38th minute when Jagger hit home a rebound off the crossbar.
Luke Hunter quickly headed home a deserved equaliser but Jagger scored direct from a free-kick to restore Bowling’s advantage on the stroke of half-time.
The defending champions then showed their class in the second half, with Chris Wood netting ten minutes after the restart before Jagger completed his treble on 75 minutes.
Buttershaw White Star matched Premier Division title rivals West Bowling’s 4-1 progress as they knocked out Dudley Hill Rangers to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
Rangers gave up home ground advantage to ensure the tie took place, whereas the weather accounted for a number of other weekend matches.
But they went unrewarded as fellow Premier side White Star eased through thanks to goals by Mark Betts (2), Ben O’Melia and Steve Bargh, with Michael Murphy pulling back a consolation.
Cuedos Rangers bowed out 3-2 to Leeds Lions Seniors, who took advantage of a below-par display by their hosts to move two up at the interval.
Ben Oliver and Daniel Duckworth scored good goals to restore parity and at this stage Cuedos looked the likely winners.
But they were reduced to ten men on the hour after making all three substitutions and the visitors scored the winner with their only second-half shot with four minutes to play.
Yet even with nine men, after their goalkeeper was also injured, the hosts still created chances, hitting the post and having another effort cleared off the line.
The Queensbury committee worked hard to get their all-Premier tie against Mill Lane on but it had to be abandoned after 70 minutes. The hosts led 1-0 at this point through Daniel Scrimshaw’s goal.
Sandy Lane reached the last 16 with a 4-2 home victory over Birkenshaw, with Stuart Cotterill, Danny Hook and Marcus Davey among the scorers.
In the WEST RIDING COUNTY FA SUNDAY TROPHY, New Tyke Rangers saw off Tingley 4-2 thanks to Brendan Maltby’s double, while Jamie Barstow gave a man-of-the-match performance.
Second West were moments away from forcing extra time at Horsforth side Old Ball but a late own goal knocked them out 2-1 after Mark Lee had earlier brought the visitors level.
