Bradford Park Avenue eased through to the third round of the West Riding County Cup with a 3-1 win at Glasshoughton Welfare in tonight’s second round.

A 13-minute spell midway through the first period put Avenue into an unassailable lead. Nicky Boshell set up the first that was swept in on the volley by Michael Duckworth. Matty James was credited with the assist for the second but it was more about Nathan Hotte’s superb take and turn before netting his shot.

Tom Greaves rifled the third in from 20 yards but Avenue went down to ten men after manager John Deacey had used all his substitutes and Boshell limped off. That was with less than eight minutes remaining but it was enough time for the home side to net a consolation through Liam Radford.

Holders Guiseley will join them in the third round after edging a seven-goal thriller by the odd strike in a 4-3 win at Harrogate Railway Athletic.

Paul Beesley put the home side in front in the third minute and they went 2-0 up thanks to Steve Palfrey. Gavin Rothery pulled one back from the penalty spot before half-time after Lee Ellington had been brought down in the area.

Skipper Simon Ainge levelled before Ellington put the Lions in front, only for Palfrey to square the game again in injury time. However, from the restart Danny Forrest netted a dramatic late winner.

Liversedge are out though after a 4-1 defeat at Garforth Town. A Scott Driscoll goal saw them come back from a goal down to be level at the interval but former player Paul Walker scored against them early in the second half. Town were never sure of their win until they netted twice in the last nine minutes.

Tomorrow night sees Eccleshill United taking on Farsley AFC in the derby tie of the round.

Albion Sports and Brighouse Town should have been in second round action but their ties have been postponed.
