Farsley AFC 2, Clitheroe 0
Assistant player-manager Mark Jackson heralded his two new defensive partners after Farsley eased to victory at home to Clitheroe in Evo-Stik League Division One North.
The win, which keeps Farsley in the promotion hunt, marked debuts for centre-back Wes Milnes and right back Steve Nicholson, who both had previous spells with Farsley Celtic.
Milnes made an instant impact on his return as he grabbed the goal that gave the home side a half-time lead.
A Simeon Bambrook corner was not held by the Clitheroe goalkeeper and Milnes was on hand to tuck the loose ball over the line.
Farsley keeper Antoni Pecora was a virtual spectator but he did make one save, tipping Jordan Hulme’s 78th-minute header over his bar.
That was the only scare for the solid home defence and the points were made doubly safe when Kevin Brown put through his own goal in stoppage time.
Jackson said: “It was our fifth win on the spin and, for me, the best part was another clean sheet.
“Wes and Steve came in and did really well – but they are very experienced players. Wes was on the end of a good set-play from Sim and it was good for him to get that (goal), having just come into a new group of players.”
