Chasetown 0, Bradford Park Avenue 4
Bradford Park Avenue consolidated fifth place in the Evo-Stik League Premier Division with a handsome victory thanks to a sound performance at ten-man Chasetown.
Avenue wavered a little with a home defeat last Monday but four goals without replay away from home was the best medicine.
They also produced one of their best displays of the season in the face of adversity as they were missing five regulars from the starting line-up.
John Deacey’s men could not have got off to a better start as they broke the deadlock after just 52 seconds. A throw-in was picked up by Michael Duckworth and his subsequent cross eluded home skipper Richard Teasdale and was headed in by Rob O’Brien.
Duckworth and O’Brien soon combined to provide a chance for Aiden Savory but his well-struck half-volley came back off the post.
O’Brien and Nathan Hotte forced home keeper Ryan Price into saves before the second goal, which came from the penalty spot just before the half-hour mark.
Matty James had broken through before being cynically scythed down by Teasdale, an action that earned the home skipper his marching orders. O’Brien spotted the ball and stroked it in off the inside of the post.
Chances were created at both ends as the first half drew to a close but Avenue dominated against Chasetown’s reduced numbers after the interval.
There was also a debut for Dempsey Smith, who came on to replace James early in the second half.
The visitors should have stretched their lead on the hour when a Nicky Boshell cross picked out Duckworth, he pulled it down and shot but struck the woodwork.
O’Brien fired the loose ball goalwards only to see his shot blocked and Smith blazed the rebound over the target.
Avenue did make it 3-0 in the 77th minute as Jordan Deacey bagged his first league goal for the club managed by his father. He seized on a loose ball in a packed area and netted a superb half-volley.
The best goal of the game was saved for last just minutes from time. Avenue keeper John Lamb released Boshell and he carried the ball forward before delivering a diagonal cross that found substitute Tom Greaves, who skipped past his marker and hit a perfectly-weighted lob over the advancing Price.
