A 6-1 romp enabled Eccleshill United to break through the 30-point barrier in Baris Northern Counties East League Division One.
But Albion Sports suffered the frustration of a postponement on a weekend when they could have taken the outright leadership.
ECCLESHILL ran out comfortable winners at home to Askern Villa, with Marcus Edwards claiming a hat-trick.
Edwards began the scoring in the second minute and ended it just before the end.
In between, Andy Fieldhouse bagged himself a brace and Ricky Popplewell netted his first for the club, while Mark Braithwaite claimed Villa’s solitary replay.
Eagles boss Ian Banks said: “It was a great performance and I’m really pleased with the lads because we had four players missing.
“It was all over after 15 minutes because we were 3-0 up then – and it could have been five or six because we started really well.”
The three points gained lift the Eagles up to eighth in the congested table.
ALBION SPORTS saw another Saturday home game lost when their fixture against Glasshoughton Welfare, who they had beaten 4-0 in the Wilkinson Sword Trophy in midweek, was called off due to a waterlogged Horsfall Stadium pitch.
Only one of the top four clubs, who are all on 39 points, played. That was Pontefract Collieries but Brendan Ormsby’s men lost at home, so had Albion played and won they would have been three points clear. Instead they remain second on goal difference.
