Last week’s game against Rotherham was bitterly disappointing – and nobody felt the pain more than myself.

At the start of the second half we gave ourselves too much to do but I still had the chance to get us out of jail with that second penalty.

I think my spot-kick record is 11 from 15 but missing that one so late in the game summed up the day.

It wasn’t good enough and we need to be stronger and more honest with ourselves if we are going to finally start climbing the table.

Every time we lose a game we set out to try and rectify it and we badly need a reaction at Gillingham now.

It’s my old club and I had two and a half good seasons there, scoring 25 goals in 100 appearances.

I played there in the Champion-ship with some good lads such as Nyron Nosworthy, Darius Henderson, Mamady Sidibe and Matt Jarvis.

All these lads went on to do well for themselves at a higher level after the club got relegated.

I stayed and took over as captain before leaving when my contract expired at the end of June 2007.

My missus had come down south with me but she was ready to move back up north and that’s what we did when I left.

But I enjoyed my time there and they are a strong club with a decent fanbase and a good chairman.

I see AFC Wimbledon beat Scunthorpe on Tuesday night, so we will be playing them for a place in the FA Cup third round next weekend.

But right now all we are focusing on is Saturday’s trip to Gillingham – and that means producing a performance and getting a result, then using that as a springboard to claw our way out of danger.
