Holders Otley Town crashed out of the Wharfedale & District FA Challenge Cup at the quarter-final stage.
They opened up a two-goal lead at Dam Lane against Ventus Yeadon Celtic but, playing downhill in the second half, the home side turned the game around and ran out worthy 3-2 winners.
The match of the day saw a keenly-fought clash at Arthington Lane, with Pool eventually scoring the only goal against last year’s finalists Ilkley Town. Bramhope overcame Rawdon Old Boys 2-1 and the shock of the round saw Otley Rovers defeat the much-fancied Baildon Trinity Athletic 3-2.
With Wharfedale & District FA Sunday Cup champions Ventus United knocked out in the first round, several teams must have been fancying their chances this season.
Red Lion Guiseley – one of those with high hopes – lost at home to Baildon Trinity Athletic. Shipley Town won their derby with Idle United 1-0 courtesy of an extra-time goal.
New Ireland Wood, conquerors of Ventus United, needed extra-time before winning 4-2 at Menston, while Otley Town Sunday beat Milford 5-0, with Scott Firth scoring a hat-trick.
