Ricky Ravenhill has told his new City team-mates to forget their penalty agony.
The on-loan midfielder was as gutted as the rest to see Conrad Logan save Michael Flynn’s spot-kick and rob them of a late draw with Rotherham.
But wondering what might have been will not help them get right for Saturday’s tough trip to Gillingham.
Ravenhill said: “It was really disappointing for everyone but we’ve got to dust ourselves off and be ready to go again. You can’t dwell on it too long.
“I’m sure the gaffer will put a few things into place ready for the Gillingham game.
“I’ve not had the chance to train with the lads properly because everything happened quite late so I’m looking forward to a good week.”
Ravenhill played alongside Flynn for a spell at Darlington and will do his best to keep the skipper’s chin up.
“Flynny will feel low but there’s no need to be like that.
“Everybody’s human, everyone misses penalties and keepers save them. We have all been there before.
“When you get a penalty like that, everybody was celebrating thinking we’re getting a point out of this, so it was deflating to see it saved. But that happens all the time. For Flynny and the team, it’s about moving on now and not looking back because it won’t change anything.”
Ravenhill’s two-month loan from Notts County will cover the hectic December and New Year spell. And he wants to leave City in a far healthier state than their current worrying spot third from bottom.
He added: “It’s hard when you are down there and things don’t come off for you. You feel like everyone’s against you.
“But the smallest thing can turn it round and I’m confident there’s enough here to make sure the club won’t be in this position for long.
“There are some good players in that dressing room and I think the team are in a false position.
“I’ve come here to knuckle down and do well and hopefully I can help out. Sooner rather than later, we can all get together and turn this round.”
