Liversedge have just passed 12 months under the stewardship of Billy Miller and the improvement is there for all to see.

In November last year, when chairman Steve Newton was in caretaker charge, it looked as if the club was in crisis.

The previous manager had departed, the squad was threadbare and the club was rock-bottom of the NCEL Premier Division.

Newton oversaw just three games before securing the return of Miller, who had been No 2 at Clayborn under Sean Regan the previous season.

Sedge were staring into the abyss, undermanned, devoid of confidence and favourites for relegation.

But Miller worked his magic and somehow the club avoided the drop. They ended the campaign in 17th spot but their safety was assured and they also had a far better squad than the one Miller had inherited.

Just a year on and Sedge are comfortably in mid-table with genuine hope of consolidating that position, starting with a trip to Arnold Town tomorrow.

A positive result is far from guaranteed but Sedge are capable of winning at places like Arnold this term.

They have won three of their last four games in all competitions, and romped to a 4-0 home win over Selby Town in their last league fixture.

Miller now has former keeper Lee Ashforth alongside him in the dugout this season and has been pleased with the chemistry that has developed between the two. Other familiar faces are also back at Clayborn, with larger-than-life Paddy Kerr returning as goalkeeping coach.

Miller relies on a small squad because of financial constraints but their latest signing is Scott Driscoll, who began his career as a youngster with Farsley Celtic.

Sedge snapped him up from local rivals Brighouse Town and his signing is a clear signal of Miller’s ambitions for the club.
