Jonny Howson has happy memories of Leeds’ trip to Burnley last season.

The United captain scored the winning goal in a memorable 3-2 win for the visitors after they had trailed 2-0 at half-time.

As Leeds prepare for their lunchtime kick-off at Turf Moor on Saturday, Howson can warmly recollect that victory just under a year ago.

“The main thing I remember from that day is the feeling of when we came off the field where all the Leeds fans were and the noise they were making,” he said.

“You can hear them in the changing room at Burnley singing above you and it’s moments like that you need to cherish in your career.

“Saturday will be another tough game there but it’s one we’re looking forward to.”

While a win for Leeds could lift them up to fourth in the table, defeat for 18th-placed Burnley might see them dragged down to within two points of the relegation zone.

The Clarets have lost three of their previous four matches and manager Eddie Howe admits his side’s form may continue to be patchy for the foreseeable future.

“We are still a work in progress and I don’t think that’s going to change short-term,” he said.

“We hope to continually improve bit by bit until we get to a level where we know what Burnley team is going to turn up week-in, week-out and we can get consistent results.

“We do have a vision of where we want to take the team and the club and we are very confident it will be successful.

“There is a period at the moment where we can perform as well as any team in the league on our day.

“But as everyone has seen, with that inexperience comes a little bit of inconsistency and a bit of naivety perhaps in our play.

“I am not writing off any part of our season. We are looking to win every game but I think there has to be a little bit of understanding of what we are trying to do.”
