Mossley 1 Guiseley 3

Following the previous week's success over Mossley in the FA Cup at Nethermoor, Guiseley took a maximum off their red rose opponents in the UniBond Premier Division on Saturday.

It was a deserved victory and hauled Guiseley up to fifth place, just three points off top side Matlock Town. It left Guiseley unbeaten since the second game of the season but for boss Neil Parsley it was tainted.

"It should have been a clean sheet, my lads deserved it, but the referee did his awful best to prevent it," he complained.

"It was a fine win and another three points and we were good value for a big victory because we played well. If I am being hyper-critical, then I have to say the ref has done us no favours. He succeeded in souring a really good away win."

Former Bradford City youngster Sam Denton gave Guiseley the lead in the 19th minute and Simon Sturdy doubled the Yorkshiremen's advantage just after the half-hour mark to complete the first-half scoring.

Guiseley winger Matty Smithard netted a third midway through the second half before the late, contentious reply. A soft free-kick was awarded in the five minutes of injury time and that led to a corner from which John Shaw converted.

Parsley added: "On the whole, I suppose I would have settled for a 3-1 away win at the start of the day but, after seeing what robbed us of a clean sheet, I was disappointed. But we knocked the ball around well and their goal was nothing other than a consolation strike.

"So I have to look beyond the referee's misjudgement late in the day and focus on what was a fine result. We have gone eight games unbeaten now and it was nice to keep that going with a victory away from home.

"We will get tested by Frickley Athletic at our place tomorrow as nothing is more intense than a derby. Frickley will not let us forget that as they come to our place looking to knock us off our stride."

That will be the last thing Guiseley want before they head into Saturday's FA Cup second qualifying-round home tie with UniBond Premier Division rivals Gateshead.
