Division One leaders Thornton United caused one of the shocks of the Bradford Sunday Alliance League season as they hammered Premier opponents Baildon Trinity Athletic 5-1 in the SENIOR CUP.
Thornton had run defending champions West Bowling close in the West Riding County FA Sunday Cup the previous week and this time completed the job. Man of the match Lee Taylor was in devastating form as he bagged a hat-trick for the hosts, with Danny Walker and Darren Archer also among the goals in the second-round romp.
West Bowling saw off Mill Lane 6-3 in an all-Premier Division third-round clash as they set their sights on a title repeat.
Chris Wood hit two early goals and Patsy Hollinger added a third but Phillip Metcalfe and Ryan Metcalfe hit back before half-time as promoted Mill Lane made a fight of it.
Wood completed his hat-trick after the restart but again the underdogs responded with a goal by Liam Charles, before Joe Jagger and Curtis McMarne finally pulled Bowling clear.
It was the same 6-3 outcome as Premier high-fliers Westwood Park knocked out Division One opponents Oakenshaw.
The scoring also followed a similar pattern, with Josh Milner (2) and Michael Garrett – in his first cup tie for the hosts – on target in the first half but Oakenshaw hitting back to trail by a single goal.
But Park then surged to victory as Milner completed his hat-trick, with Lee Burgiss and John Penn also on target.
In the INTERMEDIATE CUP, two Scott Mortimer goals enabled Bolton Woods Socials of Division 1A to edge out 1B side Oakworth Juniors 2-1.
Also in the third round, Division 2A leaders White Hart did just enough to beat Lidget Green of 2B, winning by the odd goal in five.
The top tie in the AMATEUR CUP saw Division Four high-fliers Bridge shock 3A opponents Steel Bangle 2-1 after a third-round thriller.
Goalkeeper Alan Zerkic was in superb form as Sean Coe and Paul Clearey supplied the decisive goals.
