Phil Parkinson made three changes for City's FA Cup opener against Rochdale this afternoon.
He had said that Steve Williams would get his chance and it came with a first start for the manager in place of Marcel Seip.
Jamie Devitt was recalled to the first 11 in place of Craig Fagan and Liam Moore returned for Simon Ramsden, who Parkinson wants to ease back in gradually after his lengthy lay-off.
Ramsden was on the seven-man bench which also included Luke Dean.
