Simon Ramsden's nine-month nightmare ended with a call-up for City's JPT northern area quarter-final trip to Sheffield United.
The right back was one of five changes Phil Parkinson made from Saturday, keeping the six previous starters to stay within the competition rules.
It was just as big a night for goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin, who has not had a sniff of action this season.
Chris Mitchell and Jack Compton replaced Michael Bryan and the suspended Kyel Reid in midfield. And Ross Hannah, an ardent Sheffield Wednesday fan, got the nod up front alongside Craig Fagan.
CITY: McLaughlin, Ramsden, Seip, Oliver, O'Brien, Mitchell, Jones, Flynn, Compton, Hannah, Fagan. Subs: Hanson, Williams, Wells, Devitt, Duke.
