Eight West Riding County Amateur League clubs are left in the COUNTY FA CHALLENGE CUP after a mixed set of results in the second round.

Campion made sure of their place in round three as they beat Halifax League side Ryburn United 2-0, with Damian Melvin scoring in each half.

But Tyersal could not take advantage of their reprieve back into the competition, slipping up 3-1 at Oxenhope Recreation.

Scott Nelson, Mick Garnett and Oliver Metcalfe scored for the hosts – and also contributed an own goal for Tyersal’s consolation.

Brighouse Town were 5-3 home winners against Old Headingley as Jacob Driver and Dave Woofenden both scored twice to add to Anthony Brown’s goal.

Steeton bowed out 2-0 at home to Ovenden West Riding, with Matthew Jones and Andy Gregory on target.

The tie between Storthes Hall and visiting Littletown was goalless after 90 minutes but, with a penalty shoot-out looming, Tom Matthews provided the vital touch that gave the hosts a 1-0 victory.

Hunsworth travelled to Huddersfield side Newsome, who accounted for Salts in the previous round, and edged an ill-tempered game 3-2 with second-half goals from Lee Padgett, Joe Pollard and Andrew Wood.

Ventus-Yeadon Celtic were well beaten 5-1 at home to West Yorkshire League side Bardsey, with Jamie Scott netting the solitary reply.

Overthorpe SC almost pulled off the shock of the round when they took West Yorkshire League Premier Division leaders Beeston St Anthony’s to extra time, only to lose 5-4 in the dying moments of the second additional period.

There was no cup run for Bronte Wanderers as, despite two first-half goals from Andrew Bailey and one by Tom Butcher, it was visitors Gildersome Spur who returned home 5-3 victors.

There was also no joy for Dudley Hill Rangers, who exited 3-0 at home to Shire Academicals.

Campion Reserves had their run in the WEST RIDING COUNTY FA CHALLENGE TROPHY curtailed at Huddersfield YMCA, who won the third-round tie 1-0 courtesy of Danny Deakin’s first-half goal.

Salts Reserves also bowed out after losing 2-0 at home to Wakefield League outfit Thorne.

Albion Sports, away to Bardsey Reserves, and Bronte Wanderers Reserves, who were due to face Dewsbury Rangers, will have to wait to see if they play in the next round after their respective games were postponed.
