Farsley AFC 1 Skelmersdale United 2

A traumatic week away from the game for Farsley boss Neil Parsley ended with defeat on the pitch against league leaders Skelmersdale.

Parsley’s father passed away last Monday but after handing the reins to Mark Jackson and Simeon Bambrook during the week, he felt able to resume his managerial duties for Saturday’s game.

The first half was goalless but an incident just before the break saw United reduced to ten men following a second yellow card.

The visitors dug deep and took the lead when a defensive lapse allowed Aaron Bowen a strike from distance, and he netted.

They doubled their advantage in the 79th minute when a shot cannoned off Bambrook for an own goal.

Farsley did get a deserved goal from the close contest when Dave Stead scored in the last minute.

Parsley said: “If I was their manager I would be very proud because of the spirit, effort and desire that their players showed after going down to ten men.

“They are a good side and I believe we are still a good side so full credit to them for winning the game with ten men.

“I would also like to thank all of the supporters, the staff and volunteers at Farsley for their understanding and support for me in my time of loss. It means a lot to me.”
