Leeds United’s Andy Lonergan will help launch a new goalkeeping course in Keighley next week.
The GK Icon course is being run by former Keighley Shamrocks keeper Spencer Harrison and the first session is on Thursday, November 10 at Marley (6-7pm).
Lonergan, who will be on hand to give tips and hold a question-and-answer session, is one of a series of top glovemen to lend their support to the scheme.
England’s Joe Hart and Ben Foster are among those backing the programme – being introduced across the country – which is the brainchild of Brentford keeper Richard Lee.
The emphasis of the course is on speed, agility and spring, qualities shown by the likes of Iker Casillas and Pepe Reina.
Harrison, who was an apprentice at Preston North End before spells at Bradford Park Avenue and Thackley, is a goalkeeping coach at Bradford City’s centre of excellence.
He is ultimately hoping to develop the course across the Bradford and Craven districts.
Harrison said: “At grass-roots level, there is little proper coaching for goalkeepers. I’m hoping this course can rectify that and help improve standards.”
Places on the course are limited. Call 07967-507354 to book on.
