Guiseley enjoyed a much-needed midweek run-out in preparation for Saturday’s trip to Worcester City but there was one snag.

Having not had a game last Saturday as scheduled opponents Nuneaton Town were involved in the FA Cup, Steve Kittrick fielded a strong side in the 2-0 West Riding County Cup win over Tadcaster Albion.

But while former Terriers’ skipper Andy Holdsworth broke his scoring duck for Guiseley – who are the current county cup holders – former Bantams captain Mark Bower picked up an ankle injury.

Spokesman Stuart Allen said: “I definitely think that Steve felt the squad needed to get a game in, so the county cup tie came in very handy for us.

“We haven’t had the chance to build any momentum from the 2-0 home win over Hyde. While Tuesday’s game will have been good for topping up match fitness, it went all right apart from the injury to Mark.

“He will be doubtful now for Saturday’s game and Danny Ellis will be out for another few weeks with his shoulder injury, so Steve is struggling a little for cover in the centre back area.”

Immediately after the game on Tuesday, Bower said: “I will see how much it balloons up before deciding whether I will be fit enough for Saturday.”

After beating former leaders Hyde in their last outing in Blue Square Bet North, Guiseley face just as stern a challenge at one of the chasing pack on Saturday.

Seventh-placed Worcester are five points behind Guiseley, having played a game more than their visitors. The Lions are ten points behind the leaders in fourth but now have two games in hand over them.
