Two huge victories mean the mood at Horsfall Stadium could not be better ahead of Bradford Park Avenue’s game at home to struggling Stocksbridge Park Steels on Saturday.

Last weekend's progress into the first round proper of the FA Cup, thanks to a 2-0 success at Kidsgrove, was quickly followed by a home win over promotion rivals Chester FC.

Avenue jumped to fifth with their 2-1 triumph over the former Football League club courtesy of an injury-time winner from debutant Adnan Ahmed.

And they have an ideal chance to build further momentum against a Sheffield outfit who are third from bottom. They have lost ten of their 16 games, while Avenue are hunting their tenth victory.

The Bradford side would not move any higher in the Evo-Stik Premier Division should they win as fourth-placed Hednesford have a four-point cushion.

However, a second league win on the spin would put them right back in the promotion mix, having suffered a wobble before their recent glut of cup fixtures.

Press officer Lewis Sale said: “It was an astonishing game against Chester and a stunning finish, so things are looking good at the minute.

“Adnan Ahmed got the goal with a shot into the top corner deep into stoppage time and the place went wild.

“There was a fantastic atmosphere and, because it was Chester, the attendance was just over 600, which for a midweek game was very good.

“Ross Daly and Nathan Hotte were absolutely superb in the centre of midfield.

“We finished with Billy Law, Tom Greaves and Adnan up front and all three had come off the bench, so we have strength in depth. There were some nice touches as well as they all seem to be on the same wavelength.”

In Evo-Stik Division One North, there could not be a sterner test for Farsley AFC as they host leaders Skelmersdale United.

The visitors have played two more fixtures than Neil Parsley’s men but have a 16-point cushion over eighth-placed Farsley.

The pressure is also on United too, however, as second-placed Curzon Ashton are just three points behind them with two games in hand.

Farsley enjoyed a boost in midweek as they progressed in the West Riding County Cup with Ben Jones (two), Simeon Bambrook and Joe Mitchell on target in a 4-2 first-round win over Ossett Town.
