Silsden 0, St Helens Town 1 The Cobbydalers were gifted home advantage for this second round tie but it did not prevent Premier Division rivals St Helens Town from marching on.
St Helen’s rented home was unavailable to them so the tie was switched to the Asda Foundation Stadium but the home side would have had to swap their forwards as well in order to win the tie.
They created plenty of chances but failed to convert and the visitors won courtesy of a seventh-minute strike. St Helens had struck the woodwork minutes earlier but broke the deadlock when a corner was swung in and Iain Dyson flicked it on for Latvian striker Artjorns Butorins to nip in and score.
St Helens hit the bar again courtesy of a Michael Burns header. Arley Barnes came close to an equaliser just before the half-hour but his shot was saved and then he blazed over.
Silsden had the ball in the net twice in the second half but efforts from Danny Bryan and Andy Lee (pictured) were ruled offside.
The visitors had late chances as the hosts sought an equaliser but Christian Paulet-Briggs made two good saves to maintain a respectable scoreline.
