Albion Sports 2, Worksop Parramore 0 Albion Sports leapfrogged their visitors to go top of the Baris NCE League Division One as former leaders Handsworth MW lost for a second successive time.
The first half was goalless and the second period threatened to be.
However, the home side picked the lock of the Worksop defence with two well-taken strikes.
Tony Vento claimed the assist on the opener just before the hour mark. His strong run from midfield had the visitors back-pedalling and his through-ball found Jordan Missin, who netted with an exquisite lob.
Ashley Flynn came off the bench for his debut and made the game safe in the 76th minute. He anticipated when visiting skipper Scott Lowe was faced with a difficult clearance. Flynn’s quick thinking allowed him to latch on to a poor header back to the keeper and he found the net with an inch-perfect chip.
Albion boss Kulwinder Sandhu said: “It was a difficult game but a good win for us. Flynn did well to score on his debut and both the goals were well taken. It puts us in good spirits ahead of tonight’s cup tie.”
Albion are at home to Selby in the West Riding County Cup first round.
Eccleshill United also enjoyed a home win as they beat Teversal, who had overcome Handsworth in midweek, 4-2 to help their own push for promotion.
The Eagles also had a debutant scorer as new signing John Cullen broke the deadlock. Jacob Ashley levelled for the visitors but Charlie Flaherty added United’s second and, when Marcus Edwards netted two minutes, later the contest was over.
Edwards added his second in the second half before Teversal grabbed a consolation through Greg Tobin.
