Bamber Bridge 2, Farsley AFC 1
Farsley’s promotion challenge received a damaging blow as they lost by the odd goal to a late winner at Bamber Bridge in the Evo-Stik League.
The Lancashire outfit were the better side in a goalless first half but Farsley’s debutant goalkeeper Antonio Pecora made some fine saves.
His agility arguably earned him the visitors’ man of match accolade but definitely kept his side in the game.
The first time his decision-making was questioned was just after the hour mark and unfortunately it led to the opening goal.
Pecora raced out of his area to reach a through ball and he did make contact but Ryan Salmon won the ball and netted, despite centre back Josh Radcliffe making up ground to provide cover for his keeper.
Farsley did manufacture the best goal of the game when Adam Muller and Ben Jones combined before the former player coolly slotted under the home keeper.
The equaliser looked to have earned Farsley a point but their hosts conjured an injury-time winner.
Salmon lifted a ball over the visitors’ defence and substitute Darren Green, who had a brief spell with the old Farsley Celtic club while on loan from Stockport County, lashed in a shot from the edge of the area.
