Silsden 0, Flixton 1
Silsden lost another home game as Flixton’s narrow victory lifted them to joint-top in the NWC League Premier Division.
The Mancunians had Manchester United and England striker Danny Welbeck’s elder brother Wayne to thank as he set up the game’s only goal.
It left the Cobbydalers languishing in 16th place and bemoaning the fact they are still failing to convert the chances they are creating.
But they did have an exciting new talent on show as Chris Wademan, who does not turn 17 until later this week, was promoted from the under-19s squad.
The youngster came close to scoring on his senior debut. He fed a through ball to Andy Lee, whose shot was blocked by the visiting keeper. Wademan followed up and lashed the rebound at the goal but James Blair got back to clear.
He was also involved in a good move that ended with John Douglas shooting over and seemed to be brought down in the area late in a goalless first half.
Flixton produced their winner in the 71st minute when Chris Smith outjumped Danny Husband to head home Welbeck’s cross.
