A second successive defeat for Campion in their West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division home game against Marsden put a dent in Campion's hopes of moving to within a point of leaders Ovenden West Riding.

After losing to Storthes Hall 2-0 the previous weekend, Campion were looking forward to a return to form when Huddersfield-based side Marsden were their opponents at Manningham Mills.

After an even first half, when a Dean Siddiq strike for Marsden and an equaliser from James Nestor had the game all square, Campion took the game to their visitors in the second half.

However, they were denied by Marsden’s stubborn defending and the safe hands of goalkeeper Ashley Connor, including a penalty save, before an injury- time winner from Jonathon Newiss snatched a 2-1 win for Marsden.

Steeton lost by the same 2-1 scoreline at champions Bay Athletic, who had Steve Smith and Declan Corby on target before Andy Holden pulled one back for the Keighley side.

Ventus Yeadon Celtic consolidated their third place in Division One with a 4-2 home win over Dudley Hill Rangers.

Alex Cusack netted twice in the second half to add to one apiece from Tony Burk and Antony Hannan, after Liam Bastiv and Ryan Sterr had netted in the first half for Rangers.

Leaders Lepton Highlanders opened up a seven-point lead over Overthorpe after beating AFC Emley 2-1.

It was a day of mixed success for the league's teams in the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup.

Tyersal were taken to extra time at Knaresborough Town before losing out 4-2, Arron Heywood and Paul Hague scoring Tyersal's goals to force the additional 30 minutes.

Wibsey were also a round one casualty, losing 6-1 at Old Headingley. Salts also failed to get past the first hurdle, losing 5-1 at Huddersfield side Newsome.

But Bronte Wanderers had an easy passage into the next round with a 7-2 win at Craven League side Grindleton, with Dave Armstrong (3), Lee Hickman (2), James Bailey and Tom Butcher netting the goals.

Golcar United were taken to extra time before beating Baildon Trinity Athletic 4-3, while Storthes Hall won 2-0 at Ossett Albion, Littletown triumphed 4-1 at Mount St Mary’s, Overthorpe SC had a 3-2 win at Berry Brow, and Westbrook YMCA beat Kellingley Welfare 4-3 to also book their place in round two on November 5.

Both Albion Sports and Salts Reserves netted seven against their opponents to progress in the West Riding County FA Challenge Trophy.

Jatinder Singh found the net five times for Albion as the beat Wakefield League side Woodman 7-2, and 17-year-old Jordan Lazenby netted three times for Salts Reserves, who won 7-1 against Westbrook YMCA Reserves.
